It seems as if the mid-semester break was only a few days ago and the exam season has already started! You might feel like there’s so much to catch up on and only a few days left to get ourselves together. You are definitely not the only one in that boat! Here are some tips to help you work smart to make the best of these few weeks.

Identify when and where you are most productive

Studying is quite a personal activity- we all have our own preferences when it comes to when, where and how we like to study. Before sitting down, think about when and where you are most productive. Do you prefer waking up early or staying up late to study (within reasonable means of course)? Are you a visual learner or do you learn best with the help of practice exams? These are all things you must pay close attention to in order to make the most out of your study sessions.

A study plan

Especially towards the end of the semester, its normal to feel overwhelmed with deadlines and the workload. A study plan is a great tool to use here. You can organise the work you need to get done and come up with a ‘to do list’ for each day. Not only does this chunk up what may seem like a daunting amount of work, it increases productivity!

Get rid of distractions

In order to maximise your efficiency when studying, you need to start by eliminating any distraction that may get in your way. This could be your phone, the TV or loud noise. You can isolate yourself from these distractions or use many digital tools- such as screen timers- to get rid of them before studying.

Study groups

Just because there are exams coming, there is no reason to isolate yourself from others! In fact, study groups allow you to keep in touch with your friends while sharing ideas with each other as you discuss exam questions. This exposes you to many different viewpoints and allows you to look at a question from different perspectives- a skill that will surely impress your examiner!
